As anticipated, the second-quarter financial reports from MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) and Caesars Entertainment (NASDAQ: CZR) reaffirmed the downturn on the Las Vegas market while indicating more of the same for the current quarter. For iGaming, the image is noticeably brighter.
According to analyst David Katz of Jefferies, operators are faced with a dilemma when trying to please the investing community through digital growth: unless the overall firm is doing well, market participants aren't giving interactive advances much praise.
"Near-term concerns about Las Vegas Strip weakness and, in the case of CZR, regional negative productivity, are offsetting digital acceleration,” wrote the analyst in a Monday note to clients. “If estimates are finally low enough in land-based ops, digital can capture credit, in our view.”
Since MGM and Caesars are the two biggest operators on the Las Vegas Strip, a gaming industry that is now having trouble due to poor visitor numbers, persuading investors to focus more on digital growth may prove to be a difficult task in the near future.
There is no doubting that there are encouraging signs regarding iGaming. Caesars reported that its interactive division had one of its strongest quarters to record, and BetMGM and Rush Street Interactive (NYSE: RSI) only last week raised their 2025 projections.
Only Rush Street Interactive, out of the three, is solely focused on online casinos and sports betting, supporting the idea that investors might not be giving Caesars and MGM's digital operations enough credit because land-based casinos continue to be the companies' main source of revenue.
Since MGM only owns half of BetMGM and UK-based Entain owns the other 50%, the situation is arguably worse with MGM. Executives and a few investors have long maintained that Caesars' internet business's strength isn't sufficiently represented in the share price, to the point that there is persistent conjecture that the operator may spin off that division in order to increase shareholder value.
Katz pointed out that although BetMGM and MGM China's second-quarter earnings were impressive, the parent company doesn't own all of those businesses, so those elements weren't sufficient to counteract Las Vegas's decline. Nearly 56% of the Macau entity is under its control.
According to Katz, Caesars Digital is on the right track and is getting close to a $500 million yearly profits before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) run-rate. To get investors to focus more on the online aspect of the firm, the operator most likely has to report greater land-based outcomes.
This was evident in the second quarter, when the operator's Las Vegas and regional units' downturn eclipsed the digital segment's strength.
“CZR has the assets to lead, but needs to execute better. We agree with the consensus view that near-term estimates are finally low enough and management is investing in market share,” observes Katz.

The world of gambling has evolved significantly over the past few decades, and one of the most prominent changes has been the rise of online casinos. Offering the convenience of playing from anywhere, anytime, online casinos have transformed the gambling experience for millions of players worldwide. But even with the growth of virtual platforms, many gamblers still crave the excitement of a real-world casino—leading to the emergence of live casinos.
One of the biggest advantages of online casinos is the ability to play from anywhere, at any time. Whether you're on your lunch break, relaxing at home, or traveling, you can access hundreds of games with just a few clicks. There's no need to dress up or travel long distances to get to a casino—your gaming experience is right at your fingertips.
Online casinos typically offer a broader selection of games than their brick-and-mortar counterparts. From traditional table games like blackjack and roulette to a massive selection of slots, poker variants, and even virtual sports betting, the variety is unparalleled. Many online platforms also feature games with varying stakes, catering to all budgets.
Online casinos are known for offering enticing bonuses and promotions, such as welcome bonuses, free spins, loyalty programs, and no-deposit bonuses. These offers give players more opportunities to play and win without having to risk a lot of their own money. In many cases, these promotions are far more generous than what you might find in physical casinos.
Playing at online casinos offers a level of anonymity that isn’t possible in live casinos. You don’t have to worry about being recognized, and you can enjoy your gaming experience without anyone looking over your shoulder. This can create a more comfortable environment, especially for those who are new to gambling or prefer to keep their activities private.
Online casinos make it easy to deposit and withdraw money quickly. With a range of payment options like credit cards, e-wallets, bank transfers, and even cryptocurrencies, players can choose the method that suits them best. Some online casinos even offer instant withdrawals, meaning you can access your winnings as soon as you request them.
Live casinos aim to recreate the atmosphere of a real-world casino by streaming actual games played by human dealers in real-time. You get to interact with professional dealers, other players, and experience the full casino ambiance from the comfort of your own home. The feeling of being at a live table is hard to match with an automated online game.
Live casinos often have higher minimum bets compared to online games. This is due to the involvement of live dealers and the cost of streaming technology. For players looking for low-stakes games, this can be a disadvantage. However, the higher stakes can also create a more thrilling environment for those seeking to gamble more seriously.
While live casinos provide a more immersive experience, the selection of games can be more limited than that of online casinos. Live dealers typically focus on classic table games like blackjack, roulette, baccarat, and poker. The availability of games may also depend on the casino’s operating hours or the number of players in the lobby.
Since live casino games are streamed in real-time, players can see every action taken by the dealer, ensuring a high level of transparency. Many players feel more secure knowing that there are no random number generators (RNGs) involved, and the outcomes are determined by real-life actions, such as the dealer shuffling the deck or spinning the roulette wheel.
Unlike online casinos, where you play against software-generated outcomes, live casinos allow you to interact with real dealers and other players. Whether you're chatting with the dealer or participating in multiplayer poker games, this social aspect can make the gaming experience feel much more engaging and dynamic.
